Anna Salmane, Krišs Salmanis in collaboration with Kristaps Pētersons, 2015
The Song Festival, held in Latvia every five years and witnessing up to 11,000 singers performing simultaneously, is seen as the essence of being Latvian. In order to examine this perception we counted all the words that have been sung since the re-gaining of independence 25 years ago. From the emerging list of top 3, we selected the most surprising word – “god” – and commissioned the composer Kristaps Pētersons to write a new song using just this word. Versions of it were heard and seen at the exhibition hall, experienced during a series of live choir performances and interpreted by DJ Monsta.
